DIY: Ballet Flats for Royalty

You will need:

  • a pair of ballet flats
  • rhinestones or cheap rhinestone embellished earrings (bought @ wonderful world)
  • 1yard of 1/2inch gold ribbon or bias binding
  • 1yard cheap gold satin fabric
  • stripes of rich coloured two tone fabrics (i got this from my Aunt a long time never used them but I loved how it looked) OR choose and use1 rich colour satin fabric 1 yd (Be Creative!!)
  • all purpose clear glue/adhesive
  • mod podge (bought @ Arts & more EMR St Augustine $37) 
  • scissors
  • chalk
  • newspaper
  • glue gun (OR NOT)
  • old paint brush
  • foam brush for mod podge

DIRECTIONS:

  •  Place a section of gold satin fabric over shoe and pin in place
  •  trace out the shoe shape pattern with chalk
  • cut out pattern
  • repeat with the other side





  • A thin layer of glue or mod podge was applied to the outer surface of the shoe
  • cut out fabric pattern was placed on glued surface and smoothed out making sure it falls directly with the make of the shoe
  • let dry 20 minutes
  • after it has dried snip away any hanging fabric neatly around shoe and and reapply glue (not mod podge ) wherever  needed



  • starting front toe area glue fabric strips however direction you prefer onto shoe surface
  • for each strip glued fold it over to the inside of the shoe then cut leaving 1/4 inch fabric is hanging over
  • glue it to the inner rim of the shoe this leaves a neat clean finish
  • continue from toe area to heel area to completely cover the shoe
  • after, snip away any hanging fabric and neaten with glue





  • place rhinestones or whatever you desire (I used a pair of awesome earrings) and position until you determine your design. Be creative!
  • secure with all purpose glue OR a glue gun
  • leave to dry and double check,  glue where needed (be careful not to soil shoes)
  • measure rim of shoe and cut ribbon/bias
  • apply a thin layer of glue to ribbon
  • starting at the heel area place and secure ribbon to the rim of the shoe press and fold down neatly
  • continue make full circle around the shoe
  • cut, secure add pressure with fingers
VOILÀ!!!!!!!!!!!!
